Dogs allowed off leash

You must keep your dog under direct supervision and control when they are not on a lead.

Beaches where dogs are allowed off lead

* Subject to restrictions during Little Tern breeding season. When the breeding area is signposted, dogs must remain on a leash at all times.

Dogs must be on a leash and under the effective control of a competent person.

* Dog waste bags available

Owners who fail to keep their dogs on the leash and under control in on-leash areas, or take their dogs into prohibited places, can attract substantial on-the-spot fines.

No dogs allowed

Dogs are not allowed in:

  • Children's playgrounds
  • School grounds
  • Public food preparation areas
  • Wildlife protection areas

In the following places check signs to see whether dogs are allowed:

  • Public areas, reserves and beaches 
  • Public bathing areas
  • Shopping areas 

No dogs are allowed on the following beaches:

Owners who take their dogs into prohibited places can attract substantial on-the-spot fines.

You can attract substantial on-the-spot fines if you: 

  • fail to keep your dog under control in an off leash area, or
  • have them off leash in an on leash area, or
  • take them into a prohibited place, or
  • fail to pick up their waste as it poses a potential threat to the community as well as an environmental hazard.
