City of Coffs Harbour decided to collaborate with the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) to replace the Boambee Creek footbridge. The proposed work involves completely removing the existing pedestrian walkway bridge and replacing it with a modern equivalent.

Stage 1 of the project will begin on Monday, February 12th, and will include scaffolding and repairs to the Rail bridge's Southern and Northern spans, as well as the eastern side girders. Due to the nature of these works, the pedestrian footbridge will be closed during weekdays. This stage is expected to be completed by April, subject to site conditions.

Stage 2 will involve the complete removal and replacement of the council-owned pedestrian footbridge, along with repairs to the centre-span eastern side girder of the railway bridge. Access across the pedestrian bridge will be closed from 29 April at all times during this stage. We anticipate that stage 2 will be finished by late July 2024, subject to site conditions.

The footbridge replacement is fully funded by the Australian Government Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

Access to Boambee Bay Reserve from the Headland Car park is still available via Sawtell Road.
