Overview

Construction of a new shared path for use by pedestrians and cyclists is set to begin in August 2025 at Sandy Beach. This project will improve connectivity for the local community, providing a safer and more accessible route for walking and cycling.

Background

The City of Coffs Harbour is developing the Sandy Beach North Shared Path, which will ultimately link the existing path network on Coral Drive (south of Diamond Head Drive) to the Solitary Islands Way/Pacific Highway interchange in the north. This connection will provide improved access to Sandy Beach Primary School and link residents to Woolgoolga in the future.

The 3-metre-wide path is designed to accommodate pedestrians, cyclists and other path users, including mobility scooters.

Stage 1 construction is now starting - connecting Pearl Place to the playground on Waterways Drive – with future stages to follow once design work is complete and additional funding is secured.

Stage 1 is funded by $1,000,000 from developer contributions.

What's happening now
  • Stage 1 construction starting August 2025

  • Expected completion in October 2025 (weather permitting)

  • Works will focus on connecting Pearl Place to the playground on Waterways Drive

Next steps
  • Finalise the design of the remaining future path sections

  • Seek funding opportunities for future construction stages
