This infrastructure project will see the Coffs Harbour War Memorial Olympic Swimming Pool facility upgraded to provide heated pools available all year round.
The facility is used extensively for sporting, recreational and health and wellbeing outcomes. The heating upgrade will mean an extended swimming season for the facility, such as the ability to run programs (learn-to-swim, squad training, therapy sessions, aqua fitness) all year and less crowding of the 25m pool in the traditional off-season.
The project was initiated in 2021 following a Council resolution on 10 June 2021 on the Cost of installing a heating system at the Coffs Harbour War Memorial Olympic Pool report (BS21/29), following a previous Notice of Motion (NOM21/03) on the same subject in March.
Project scope
- Upgrade of mains power to support 50m pool heating system requirements, includes new sub-station and associated easement update.
- Replacement of heating system for 25m indoor pool with a new heat pump capable of delivering a temperature of 27 degrees Celsius.
- Installation of heat pump for 50m outdoor pool capable of delivering a temperature of 27 degrees Celsius.

29 Feb 2024: Direct negotiations with suppliers for supply and install of 50m pool heating completed – suppliers secured (completed)
Mar-Apr 2024: mains power upgraded (will require some temporary disruption to parking for construction and installation works)
May-Jun 2024:50m pool heating system installed, based on current expected supply timelines (subject to change)
Jul 2024: 50m pool heating system operational (ongoing) (assuming no expected delays due to weather or supply issues)
Funding
Funded by a grant from the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund (Round 5) for $797,308 and the City of Coffs Harbour for $200,000.
