Toormina Oval upgrade

A major transformation is on the way for one of Coffs Harbour’s key sporting precincts, with the approval of a $1.27 million tender to enhance the Toormina Oval. The upgrade is set to improve the facility, providing modern amenities for local sports teams and the wider community of Coffs Harbour. 

Project overview 

The Toormina Oval Upgrade will see the development of several new features, including an additional football field, a new car park, foot bridgeand new concrete footpaths connecting the areas. This multi-purpose complex is already home to Sawtell FC, one of the largest football clubs on the North Coast, and also serves as a venue for cricket during the warmer months. 

Located near a BMX track, skate park, and the Toormina Gardens shopping complex, Toormina Oval serves as a vital community hub for local families and youth. The upgrade is an essential step forward in enhancing public facilities and catering to the needs of this vibrant area in south Coffs Harbour. 

Key upgrades 

• Additional football field: A new football field will be built next to the velodrome, providing an additional space for training and weekend competitions. 
• New carpark and foot bridge: A new carpark will be constructed adjacent to the existing southern field, with a foot bridge crossing a channel drain to connect the existing fields to a new football ground. 
• Improved accessibility: New pathways and a foot bridge will improve access across the precinct, ensuring the area is more accessible for all. 
• Formalised line marking of the existing middle carpark. 
• Ongoing facility enhancements: The upgrade follows a series of improvements in recent years, including the addition of accessible female change rooms, storage spaces, pathways, as well as the recent upgrade of lighting to LED at the main fields. 

A hub for sports and recreation 

Toormina Oval already boasts a full-sized synthetic wicket cricket ground and two football fields. The precinct also includes four changerooms, accessible public toilets, and a canteen to support players and visitors alike. 

The new developments will further strengthen the facility as a cornerstone of sports and recreation in Coffs Harbour, benefiting a wide range of sports teams and community groups. 

Project timeline 

The Toormina Oval Upgrade is being delivered by a local contractor  on behalf of the City and is expected to be completed by September, weather permitting. During this period, the sports grounds will remain open and operational, ensuring that the local community can continue to enjoy the facility throughout the construction phase.
