The Park Avenue Bus Interchange Precinct is set for a transformation through the reVITALise – Public Transport Precinct Vibrancy Program, funded by Transport for NSW and supported by the City of Coffs Harbour.

The project will improve safety, accessibility, landscaping and public spaces within one of the CBD’s busiest pedestrian and public transport areas.

The upgrades have been shaped by community feedback and will be delivered in two stages.

Stage 1 – Transport and Streetscape Upgrades

Proposed works

New bus stop and shelter at the of cnr Park Ave and Grafton St
Upgrade bus shelter at the cnr of Park Ave and Little St
New taxi rank and community transport area adjacent to the car park
New kerb and gutter upgrades at the corner of Park Avenue and Little Street including a new pedestrian crossing and lighting
Relocation and upgrade of the existing pedestrian crossing
Footpath and accessibility improvements
Landscaping and garden bed upgrades
New seating, bins and streetscape improvements

Stage 1 focuses on improving public transport infrastructure, pedestrian safety, accessibility and the overall streetscape experience.

Stage 2 – Public Space and Activation Improvements

Modifications to the awning over the walkway to City Centre

Stage 2 focuses on enhancing the identity, presentation and activation of the precinct through placemaking and public space improvements.

Community Engagement

Community feedback has played an important role in shaping the project.

More than 250 community members contributed ideas and feedback through walkshops, co-design workshops, online surveys and interactive engagement activities.

Key priorities identified by the community included:

More seating and shade
Improved safety and accessibility
Better lighting
More landscaping and greenery
A more welcoming and vibrant public space

This feedback has directly informed the proposed design improvements.

Current Status

Final designs are completed and construction is to commence late August early September 2026.

The City will continue to provide updates as the project progresses.

Why is the project being delivered in stages?

The project has been divided into stages to allow different types of works to be delivered efficiently while minimising impacts to the community and surrounding businesses.

Will businesses remain open during construction?

Yes. The City will work closely with nearby businesses and stakeholders to minimise disruption and maintain access during construction wherever possible.

Will parking or traffic conditions change?

Some temporary changes to parking, pedestrian access and traffic movements may occur during construction. Updates will be provided before works begin.

Will trees be removed?

Some existing trees and understorey planting may need to be removed or modified to accommodate the upgrades. Wherever possible, mature trees will be retained and incorporated into the final design, with additional planting included as part of the project.

What accessibility improvements are included?

The project includes upgraded footpaths, improved pedestrian crossings, kerb ramp upgrades and tactile ground surface indicators to improve accessibility for all users.
