Brelsford Park is the main public park and green focal point of Coffs Harbour's city centre. We are working to make it a lively and inclusive place where community wellbeing, culture and leisure come to life.

The city centre and surrounding environment will be connected through tree-lined pathways for both pedestrians and cyclists. Events will be facilitated through construction of a small stage, amphitheatre, village green, paved civic entry area and inclusion of event power outlets. Picnic facilities, public amenities and a kiosk location will enhance recreational opportunities.

We appointed Place Design Group and project partners Fleetwood Urban (architectural), Northrop (structural engineers) and Light Art and Science (electrical and lighting designers). They created a Concept Plan(PDF, 7MB) that responds to the adopted Brelsford Park Master Plan 2013 and to the community consultation held in 2021.

Project scope

Planned improvements in this stage of works include:

  • Paved civic entry
  • Community event space including small stage and amphitheatre
  • Mobile kiosk location
  • Additional public amenities
  • Path connections
  • Picnic facilities
  • Seating and shelters
  • Lighting and power
  • Shade tree planting
  • Drainage improvements

Due to budget constraints, the planned water play feature has been removed from Stage 1 works and will be considered for future stages.

Funding

The City of Coffs Harbour was awarded $5 million for the next stages of upgrades to Brelsford Park through the Australian and NSW Government’s Bushfire Local Economic Recovery program. This investment will make Brelsford Park a prime public space for cultural, creative and recreational interests; with fresh outdoor festivities and events adding to the vibrancy of the precinct.
