ABC COFFS COAST IS THE OFFICIAL EMERGENCY BROADCASTER LISTEN LIVE HERE.

The Office of Emergency Management provides support to help people and communities recover from disasters such as the recent bushfires. You can call the disaster welfare assistance line on 1800 018 444 or visit the website for more information.

Local Land Services and NSW DPI are on the ground providing assistance to landholders who have been impacted by the fires in NSW. They assist with emergency fodder, emergency stock water,        veterinary assistance, livestock euthanasia and burial, livestock feeding and management advice, care of animals in evacuation centres.

If you, or your community has been affected by the fires and have concerns about your livestock, pets, companion animals or wildlife, call the Agriculture and Animal Services Hotline on 1800 814 647 for assistance. The best way to keep up-to-date is to visit Current Situation

BUSHFIRE RECOVERY MEETING AT NANA GLEN 20/01/2020 2:00PM

Coffs Harbour City Council is hosting a bushfire recovery meeting on Tuesday, 28 January, at 5.30pm in Nana Glen Community Hall for all those community members affected by the recent bushfires in the Orara Valley to consider the Federal Government's recently announced initial funding for the Coffs Harbour City Council local government area.
A number of support and government agencies will be in attendance.The purpose of the meeting is to update/inform property-owners and the broader community of recent developments in the recovery process and to discuss community priorities.
Nana Glen Community Hall Committee will be providing sandwiches so we are asking people to RSVP for catering purposes by calling 6648 4403 or 02 6648 4404 by Monday 27th January.


LAWYERS OFFER LEGAL AID TO BUSHFIRE VICTIMS 27/11/19 12:35PM

Legal Aid NSW lawyers will give free legal advice and support to hundreds of people affected by the recent bushfires.

UPDATE 27/11/19 12:04PM: Please note that the Temporary Drinking Water Service has now closed as local water carters are available for bookings to fill and top-up drinking water tanks. Council provided over 100 tank loads for people in hardship in the fire-affected areas to help while the demand was at its highest.

CORAMBA & LOWANNA TRANSFER STATIONS OPEN 23-24 NOVEMBER FOR FREE HOUSEHOLD GREEN WASTE DISPOSAL: Residents of Coramba, Nana Glen and Lowanna wishing to tidy up dry vegetation to help protect their properties from potential bushfires can take it for NO CHARGE to the Coramba and Lowanna Transfer Stations between 8am and 4pm on 23 and 24 November 2019.

This is in addition to the free household green waste disposal happening at the Englands Road Waste Facility on the following weekends - 23-24 November, 30 November - 1 December & 7-8 December.

Please note: The waiving of fees applies only to domestic quantities of acceptable green waste.

Acceptable household green waste is:

• Lawn clippings

• Tree trimmings and branches - MUST BE less than 150mm in diameter

(Burnt acceptable green waste can be brought in).

Green waste must be uncontaminated and NOT contain:

• Timber palings

• Palm trunks

• Logs

• Stumps

• Treated timber

• Mixed waste

• Bags of any type

This service is provided to residents only and is not applicable to commercial operators.

All other waste types accepted at Coramba Facility will still attract Council's adopted fees and charges. 21/11/19 16:08pm

PLEASE NOTE: This does not remove the requirement to obtain approval (if required) for vegetation removal. Check here to see if you need approval.

Coffs Harbour City Council is providing a Bushfire Green Waste Disposal Opportunity to Coffs Harbour residents wishing to help protect their properties from potential bushfires are able to take household green waste at NO CHARGE to Council's England's Road Waste Management Facility for the following weekends - between 8am and 4pm:

EVACUATION CENTRE UPDATE:

UPDATE AT 11am Friday 15 November:
As residents have now been given the all-clear to return home, the York Street Oval is being wound up this morning and will be closed as a temporary campsite by the end of the day.

-Urunga and Dorrigo Evacuation Centres will be closing at 11am today, 14 November.

- Woolgoolga Evacuation Centre will be closing at 5pm today, 14 November.

- York Street Oval in Coffs is still open for evacuees with caravans, campervans and tents.

Council would like to acknowledge the outstanding work of the C.ex Group, FACS, Red Cross, Anglicare and all volunteers for their fantastic response and efforts in managing the hundreds of community members who needed to use the centres over the past four days. Well done to all.

NANA GLEN RESIDENTS:

Emergency Services have advised that residents from Nana Glen are now able to return home from 7pm Wednesday 13 November.

The Orara Way, East Bank Road, Sherwood Creek Road and Bucca Road are open to the public as of 1900 (7pm). 13/11/19 18:46

Caution needs be observed for damaged and falling trees impacting the road surface and smoke in the area


EVACUATION CENTRE UPDATE:

The C.ex Coffs Evacuation Centre will close today (13 November 2019) at 5pm because of the reduced fire threat. Thanks to all the amazing staff & volunteers for looking after everyone!

But the Evacuation Centres at C.ex Woolgoolga, C.ex Urunga, Dorrigo Recreation Club and the Pet Evacuation Centre at the Coffs Showground will remain open for the foreseeable future. 13/11/19 15:18


ROAD CLOSURES:

Latest info from RFS at 12.37pm 13/11/19: Current road closures in the fire-impacted areas of Glenreagh, Nana Glen and Coramba.  Be aware that conditions can change rapidly so continue to monitor the RFS  Fires Near Me website and updated road closures on the My Road Info website.

BUSHFIRE AFFECTED LANDHOLDERS requiring emergency fodder, emergency water, livestock or domestic animal assessments are being urged to call the Agricultural and Animal Services Hotline: 1800 814 647.

The NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) and Local Land Services are providing assistance to landholders to manage animal welfare-related issues including: 

  • Emergency fodder
  • Emergency stock water (where there is an immediate animal welfare concern)
  • Animal assessment and veterinary assistance 
  • Stock euthanasia and burial 
  • Livestock feeding and management advice 
  • Care of animals in evacuation centres

COFFS COAST HOLIDAY PARKS are providing emergency accommodation (camping sites) free to local residents who have had to leave their homes.
Currently we have this availability:
SAWTELL BEACH HOLIDAY PARK – limited availability of cabins, with still a number of powered and plenty of unpowered camping sites available.
PARK BEACH HOLIDAY PARK – No cabins available, limited powered and unpowered camping sites available
WOOLGOOLGA LAKESIDE HOLIDAY PARK (pet friendly) – Limited powered and unpowered camping sites available, limited cabins available tomorrow, unfortunately no availability tonight.
WOOLGOOLGA BEACH HOLIDAY PARK – No availability

YORK ST OVAL: Bushfire evacuees with caravans, campervans and tents are welcome to use York Street Oval as a temporary campsite during this emergency. Signage is being put in place. Please note that the oval is not stocked with toilet paper or extra bins at this stage.
Current Evacuation Centres are - C.ex Urunga, C.ex Woolgoolga (Boundary St) and C.ex Coffs. They are already open and will stay open overnight.
Coffs Showground is open as a Pet Evacuation Centre.
