The community are being urged to provide feedback on the draft Creative Coffs –Cultural Strategic Plan 2017 – 2022 and Cultural Policy.

The draft Plan’s vision is of a vibrant and creative Coffs lifestyle enriched by its natural beauty, diverse people and capacity for innovation.

Few community aspirations and goals can be achieved by Council in isolation and the Plan emphasises the need for collaboration and partnership with and between Council, community organisations, diverse communities and creative businesses.

The draft Policy and Plan provides a framework to guide the strategic direction, investment and outcomes of cultural and creative development in the Coffs Harbour LGA until 2022.

“The Coffs Harbour LGA enjoys an active and diverse cultural life. As a community we need to build on our strengths, develop our capacity and the depth of our cultural offerings to further enhance the attractiveness of the Coffs Harbour area as both a place to live in and to visit.

The high level of engagement from the community throughout the development of the Plan shows how passionate our community are about growing the creative sector,” said Mayor Cr Denise Knight.

Extensive community and stakeholder views have been sought in the development of the plan with over 850 survey responses received, high attendance numbers at workshops and focus groups all combining to create a Plan that is reflective of the community’s expectations and aspirations.

The proposed draft Policy and Plan puts forward strategies to recognise the central role of arts and culture to the liveability of our region including economic, social and cultural wellbeing around 5 key goals: :

1. Engage our community and visitors in the cultural life of the area

2. Create and maintain vibrant cultural and public spaces

3. Understand and celebrate our cultural heritage and diversity

4. Value and support our creative industries

5. Encourage connections, collaboration and partnerships.

The community have from Wednesday December 14, 2016 until 5pm Tuesday January 31, 2017 to provide feedback on the draft Plan and Policy.

Further information including a copy of the draft Creative Coffs –Cultural Strategic Plan 2017 – 2022 and Cultural Policy and details of how to make a submission can be found on Councils website at www.coffsharbour.nsw.gov.au/onexhibition from December 14, 2016.
