Projects Get The Green Light

Council last night approved the funding of 17 environmental projects at a cost of $1,246,563 for the 2015/2016 year.

Coffs Harbour City Council’s Environmental Levy (EL) funds local organisations and individuals interested in helping to improve our local environment.

Council received a total of 34 submissions with groups such as the Mid North Coast Branch of WIRES, Jetty Dunecare, EnviTE and Coffs Harbour Regional Landcare represented among the 17 successful submissions. The Coffs Harbour Regional Landcare project, for instance, will provide coordination and support to Landcare and other environmental groups and individuals who work voluntarily in rehabilitating degraded natural ecosystems.

“This particular project will support over 300 Landcare volunteers through the provision of insurance, bush regeneration training, tools and materials and administration support,” Mayor Councillor Denise Knight said.

“They will also rehabilitate and re-vegetate over 300 hectares of vegetation across 32 volunteer worksites.

“This project is a perfect example of what we are trying to achieve with the Environmental Levy.”
