National OZTAG organisers can’t get enough
of Coffs Harbour’s sporting facilities, signing up for what will be 11 straight
years for their flagship event – the OZTAG Senior Championships.
Coffs Harbour City Council has successfully
secured the OZTAG Senior Championships for 2015 – 2017.
Oztag’s Tournament Director, Bill Harrigan
said: “It’s no secret that we love the venue and it just makes sense to keep
the championships in Coffs, which is about half way for both Sydney and
The senior event first came to Coffs
Harbour in 2007 – a total of 114 teams took part this year.
“That equates to about 4,000 people coming
into the city for the three-day event,” said Coffs Harbour Mayor Councillor
Denise Knight. “Our relationship with OZTAG has gone from strength to strength
– earlier this year we announced that Coffs Harbour will host the National
Junior Championships until 2016.”
The junior event was hugely successful in 2014 and attracted over 120 teams to the city. This weekend (13-15 February 2015), Coffs is also hosting the
OZTAG Junior State Cup, which features 266 junior teams.
With the inclusions of parents and
supporters, it is anticipated that there will be between 7,000 to 8,000 people
in the city for the duration of the three-day tournament.
