27 July 2015 Healthy Canteens on the Menu

The Good Guys, the Coffs Coast Growers Market and Mid North Coast Local Health District (MNCLHD) are again on the hunt for the healthiest canteens on the Coffs Coast.

“The Good Guys have been helping to support healthy food choices in the canteens of Coffs Coast schools for three years now,” said Jarod Jones from The Good Guys Coffs Harbour, “It is amazing to see the great work that Canteen Managers and Teachers do in supporting our children to make healthy food choices. “

There are two awards on offer:

  • The Coffs Coast High School Award. The prize includes $1,000 to spend at The Good Guys and $500 cash from the Coffs Coast Growers Market.

  • The Coffs Coast Primary School Award. The prize includes $1,000 to spend at The Good Guys and $500 cash from the Coffs Coast Growers Market.

  •  Plus one school will win the opportunity to have a local chef visit their school to help promote the principal of the ‘Fresh Tastes @ School’ programme on Food Revolution Day 2016.

“The Revolution Day event held at Repton Primary School in May this year was a huge success. The Wizard of OZ themed lunch delighted students, parents and teachers and showed that eating healthy nutritious food can also be lots of fun” Said Nikki Greenwood, Group Leader City Prosperity. “Council through the Coffs Coast Growers Market is proud to help support the healthy eating message within the school environment.”

“Staff from the Mid North Coast Local Health District Health Promotion team provide advice and support for schools with implementing the Fresh Tastes @ School Strategy as part of the Live Life Well @ School program, so we are happy to assist schools with ideas to support their applications and to ensure that they meet the Award’s eligibility criteria,” said MNCLHD Health Promotion Officer Nicki Kerr.

Entry forms will be sent to all Coffs Coast Schools in the coming weeks or can be downloaded here or obtained by emailing sue.mills@chcc.nsw.gov.au . The closing date for the competition is 5pm on Monday 26 October 2015.
