Today (25 June) the C.ex Coffs International
Stadium marked its 21st birthday with a celebration for the
pioneers, volunteers, past and current staff, sporting organisations and all
those who have been instrumental in making the venue the success it is today.
“The Stadium has been a triumph for the
city and community of Coffs Harbour,” said Coffs Harbour Mayor, Councillor
“It has brought world-class sport and
world-class professionals into our midst where they have proved a huge
inspiration for our youth, as well as players and fans of all ages. It also
injects many, many millions of dollars into the regional economy each year by
bringing thousands of visitors to the area.
“The Stadium’s versatility as a sporting
ground is legendary – and has been proved time and time again by the variety of
sports that have been played there.
“There is no doubt now that Coffs Harbour’s
C.ex Coffs International Stadium is seen as the regional venue of choice for
almost all sporting codes – not least because of the amazing volunteers who are
the backbone of the operation.
“So the biggest congratulations should go
to all those who have been involved in the Stadium’s development over the years
into the fantastic venue we have today.
“Their vision – and that of the current and
former Stadium Members – has taken the Stadium to where it is today. Happy 21st
C.ex Coffs International Stadium!”
Some of the major and diverse events that
have taken place at the Stadium over the years include: the Australian Masters
Games, the Sikh Games, the Olympic Torch Relay, the British Lions v NSW Country
Cockatoos, ING Cup Cricket, the Crusty Demons, Country v City NRL, the AFL NAB
Challenge, Nitro Circus, first National Oztag Championships, Beijing Olympic
