Council, as Crown Land Manager, has been seeking a suitable tenant for occupation of the former Deep Sea Fishing Club site to ensure ongoing management and maintenance of the facility.

Expressions of Interest (EOI) were recently called with four submissions received with one subsequently withdrawing their submission.

The decision of the assessment panel is to enter into a short term licence agreement with Seaside Restaurants and Amplify Events. The facility will be used as a restaurant and entertainment venue, incorporating multipurpose space for music, arts and community activities.

Coffs Harbour City Council General Manager, Steve McGrath said it will be exciting to see this facility come alive again.

“Seaside Restaurants currently operate several successful restaurants in Byron Bay (Bang Bang Byron Bay and Treehouse on Belongil) and Noosa (Bang Bang Noosa).  Amplify Events are also well regarded in the events and music industry, so the community is in very good hands.

“The submission by Seaside Restaurants/Amplify Events, detailing proposed investment in aesthetic improvements, furnishing and equipment, was assessed as the most advantageous to Council and the community.”

Director at Amplify Events Dave Mansfield said “our Group’s regional operating experience and locally based management team for this venture means we can work closely with the community to deliver great results.

“We’re extremely excited to have been awarded the operating licence for this iconic venue, and can’t wait to breathe fresh energy into this site. Our vision is to create a vibrant, family friendly venue renowned throughout the Coffs Coast & beyond, combining the stunning location with outstanding food and beverage service & diverse programming of live entertainment and events. We are eager to foster local creative talent by providing a platform for arts and culture to be enjoyed in a comfortable, casual setting.

“Our goal for the space is to serve and support the needs of the Coffs community, whilst also drawing visitors and bolstering cultural tourism to the region. We aim to provide numerous employment and vocational training opportunites for local staff, and to increase  connectivity between industry and education via a pathway to employment in partnership with TAFE NSW.”

The initial term offered via the EOI is one (1) year, with conditional right for two further one-year (2 x 1) renewals. The two possible one year extensions are each subject to the tenant’s use being in line with the NSW State Government Jetty Foreshore Precinct Master Planning and Council’s requirements for the site.

It is expected that the tenure will commence early November as the proponents prepare to open prior to Christmas.
