At the Coffs Harbour City Council meeting on 12 May 2022 it was resolved to note a report on the valuation of the land area known as ARTC land located between Jordan Esplanade and the North Coast Railway Line and bring back to Council another report on what funding sources would be available if a purchase was to be pursued.

Mayor Councillor Paul Amos said he is of the firm view that the community would like to own this land in perpetuity and have it available for recreation as the city grows.

“This is prime recreational land that needs to be preserved well into the future. I believe as a Council we have a duty to explore a potential purchase.

“The current zoning of the ARTC land in question is public recreation and infrastructure. The objectives of these zones focus on keeping the land for public open space and recreation, providing walking and cycling infrastructure and to prevent development that is not compatible with this.”

The Council resolution states “a report be brought back to Council outlining a range of possible funding sources for the purchase of the ARTC land based on the evaluation report.”
