Local artists have been hard at work turning this year’s City Centre Christmas Tree into a unique piece of art that everyone can enjoy.

The 12 artists got to work at an evening workshop funded by Coffs City Centre. “It was such a great night,” said local artist flossy-p (pictured below with the tree). “A great opportunity to regain a sense of community, and meet and network with other artists for a fun cause too.”

The working bee was hosted at Om Yeah Yoga Studio, which is due to re-open its doors again soon after a long lockdown closure. Café Ophelia, OMG Decadent Donuts, Choc Daisy Raw Bar and the Produce Markets catered the event, keeping the artists sustained as they gathered to create around 300 decorations together.

The artists covered a diverse span of the arts - from an interior designer, to surface designer, ceramicist, illustrators, and even a real-time digital programmer who has had work featured at Vivid Festival Sydney, Beijing Deign Week and the International Symposium of Electronic Arts.

“Watching each of the artists transfer their individual and identifiable style on the decorations was the best part of the night,” said abstract landscape artist, Kelly Finley.

Erin Hughes from Noi Creations amazed everyone on the night, using her masterful sign-writing skills to label every single beach on our coast from Red Rock to Sawtell.

Thanks to the artists, anyone who visits the tree can play ‘community eye-spy’ by searching for their favourite local beach, a lizard drawn by local illustrator Mardi Davies, the little bees by Lauren Ginger Kelly, ‘Patrick the Starfish’ from Spongebob by Jimmy Wags, the bowling ball skull by Patrick Duthie, and many more.
