Coramba and Nana Glen drinking water supplies

Nana Glen

To supply the residents of Nana Glen and Nana Glen Rail, water is pumped from the Orara River, clarified, filtered, disinfected and conditioned at the Nana Glen Water Treatment Plant.

The treated water is stored in two 500,000 litre reservoirs on site. It is then reticulated to approximately 150 properties.

Coramba

As of October, 2018, the village of Coramba is supplied with the same fully treated drinking water as the coastal towns and villages in the Coffs Harbour area.

Water is now delivered to Coramba via a 150mm pressure water main from the Water Treatment Plant (DAFF) at Karangi to the high level reservoir located above the village. The reservoir stores about 450,000 litres of water to serve the 145 properties connected to the Coramba water mains.

Previously, Coramba was supplied with raw water from the Regional Water Supply Pipeline from the Nymboida River, which was disinfected and then pumped to the reservoir. When water quality from the Nymboida River deteriorated after heavy rain, raw water was fed to Coramba from Karangi Dam.

There were several reasons for Council to construct a pipeline to deliver fully treated drinking water from the Karangi Water Treatment Plant to Coramba:

1) Ensure consistent drinking water quality for Coramba residents

2) Reduce Council operating costs by eliminating disinfection process at Coramba

3) Reduce Council operating costs, water loss and customer inconvenience by reducing water mains flushing program from three times per year to once per year
