History of the gallery

The Bunker Cartoon Gallery is Australia's first and only dedicated black and white art gallery exhibiting the largest private collection of contemporary cartoons in the Southern Hemisphere. The Gallery is housed in an authentic underground WWII bunker that has been converted to a funky exhibition space.

The Bunker Cartoon Gallery is operated by the Bunker Cartoon Gallery Inc. under licence from Coffs Harbour City Council (from 1 July 2015).

It was renamed the National Cartoon Gallery @The Bunker in 2018.

The Venue

The National Cartoon Gallery @ The Bunker is wheelchair friendly and welcomes coach tours. The Gallery is also available for hire as a venue for events such as launches, cocktail parties, business or promotional events and the like. Contact the Gallery for more information.

Volunteers

The National Cartoon Gallery @ The Bunkre relies on volunteers to man the reception desk and to assist staff with mounting, framing and hanging of artworks, and for various duties on opening nights and during special events. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer (even if you are only available once or twice a month), please contact the Gallery on 02 6651 7343.
