What Council's Doing

Woolgoolga Water Reclamation Plant

A major upgrade of the Woolgoolga Reclamation Plant (WRP) to ensure a higher standard of water treatment and additional capacity to deal with extra sewerage flows from Mullaway and Arrawarra began in February 2004 and was completed 12 months later, at a total cost of $16 million.

The Woolgoolga Water Reclamation Plan was officially opened by Coffs Harbour Mayor, Councillor Keith Rhoades, and Clean Up Australia Chairman and founder, Ian Kiernan AO, on 11 March 2005.

The Woolgoolga WRP system serves Sandy Beach, Woolgoolga and Safety Beach. Work to connect Arrawarra and Mullaway to the sewerage system began in March 2005, and residents in this area will be able to plan for connection to the new system by the end of 2005.

The completion of the upgrade meant that the outfall to Willis Creek at Woolgoolga adjacent to Flat Top Rock could be decommissioned.

Alliance LogoCoffs Harbour City Council undertook this project as an alliance contract between GHD, Abigroup and Aquatec Maxcon. The WRP Alliance team worked together on the design from August 2003.

The construction works were designed to have a minimal impact on surrounding residents. Residents were informed of different stages of the construction through direct mail box drops or articles in the local Woolgoolga Advertiser.
