Environmental Laboratory - Overview
Coffs Harbour Water has an Environmental Laboratory that provides analysis and consultancy service to clients wanting a chemical and microbiological analysis of water quality.
The laboratory analyses all types of water, including bore, tank, pool, reticulated and environmental. It also analyses wastewater, biosolids, soils and oysters.
Services
The Environmental Laboratory provides services to a range of different clients including local councils, government departments, oyster growers, developers and individuals.
Discounts
The Laboratory offers discounts depending on sample volumes and analytical techniques required.
Equipment
Sophisticated equipment produce accurate results having low level detection limits.
Some equipment used by the Laboratory includes:
- Lachat Quikchem 8000 Flow Injection Analyser (FIA) for nutrient analysis.
- Inductively Coupled Plasma Emission Spectrometer (ICP-ES) and Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS) with SIPS for metal analysis.
- Ion Chromatograph for the determination of anions (chloride, sulphate).
- Gas Chromatograph for the determination of pesticide residues.
These allow the laboratory to test a large number of small volume samples in a significantly short period of time.
NATA Accreditation
The laboratory is accredited by the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA)
NATA Accreditation No's: 12359 (Chemical, 1997) and 14656 (Microbiological, 2000)
Staff
The laboratory employs six full time staff and two casual workers. Bev Wadleigh is the Laboratory Manager (photo on the right).
