Residents Sign Up for Coffs Ambassador Program
Coffs Harbour City Council has finished recruiting residents for its new community programme called Coffs Ambassadors - Volunteer Interpretive Tours.
The programme involves community volunteers running short interpretive tours for residents and tourists within the local area - that each individual develops on themes that interest them.
Tours could include a wide range of themes depending on the volunteer's particular interest and expertise. Examples of themes could be birdlife, history, culture, biodiversity, weeds, native plants, aquatic life or native fauna. The tours themselves can also be done through a range of transport options such as walking, kayaking or cycling along existing paths and cycle ways or creeks, rivers and beaches. They would typically take between 1.5 to 2 hours and would be designed to allow participation from as many members of the public as possible - whatever their age or fitness level.
All volunteers who were accepted are being given full training in tour guiding, first aid and OH&S. Volunteers are undertaking an accredited training programme where they develop their interpretive skills, occupational health and safety, public speaking, guiding and how to design and write their own tours.
