1875 lighthouse at MuseumThe Coffs Harbour Regional Museum collects, preserves, interprets and exhibits items of historical significance from the Coffs Harbour region.

The Museum is a valuable community asset that has about 10,000 artefacts, including a working lighthouse built around 1875 (see photo on the right), and a 1910 Star, which was the first motorised taxi in Coffs Harbour.

The Museum has a research role, providing information to school groups, university students and any other interested groups or individuals. Volunteers can help you find information on local pioneering history, produce displays on request and help you source books and historical photographs.

WHAT'S ON - Travelling/temporary exhibitions and events:

In addition to its permanent collection, the Museum also presents changing exhibitions.

  • "Between the Flags" - 25 August to 18 October
Travelling exhibition from the National Museum of Canberra, celebrating the 100th anniversary of Surf Life Saving in Australia. More about the exhibition.

  • "Salon des Refusés" - 28 October to 29 November
Art exhibition featuring still life works from local and regional artists as well as artists from across Australia, in this 'spill-over' exhibition from the Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery's EMSLA 2008. A variety of activities will also be organised during this period, details of which will be published closer to the date.

  • "TAFE Furniture Design" - 5 December 2008 to 24 January 2009
Exhibition of furniture designed and created by local TAFE furniture design students.

Refurbishment

The Coffs Harbour Regional Museum was completely refurbished in 2006 and re-opened its doors to the public on Australia Day 2007, featuring a collection of existing and new artefacts as well as temporary and travelling exhibitions. See media release about the re-opening
