27 Nov 08 - Santa Claus is Coming to Town!
Coffs Harbour kids are getting an early Christmas present this year with three chances to meet Santa's reindeer helpers on December 4, 5 and 6.
"Coffs Harbour's children must have been very good this year as Santa is allowing his reindeers to take an unprecedented three days out of their very busy schedule to spend time with them in the city centre," said Coffs Harbour Mayor, Councillor Keith Rhoades.
"There are lots of great activities planned - including the switching on of the new Christmas tree lights and the chance to meet Rabbitohs stars - so there will be plenty to see and do for all the family," he said.
Santa's schedule includes:
Thursday, December 4 - Santa's Arrival in the City Centre and the Great Christmas Tree Switch-On. The event begins at 5.30pm and will include a jumping castle, airbrush tattoos, balloons, facepainting, market stalls, a competition to win tickets for the 'Return to Redfern' game between the Souths and the Tigers plus FREE fairy floss for kids. Live music starts at 6pm with 'Coastal Soul' in the City Square while the Coffs City Choir will be entertaining with traditional Christmas carols in the Palms Shopping Centre. The South Sydney Rabbitohs stars will arrive at 6pm to meet and greet their fans and sign autographs. The big event will be Santa's arrival in his sleigh pulled by live reindeer before he, the Rabbitohs stars and the Mayor switch on the Christmas tree lights around sunset.
Friday, December 5 - Reindeers Return. Santa's reindeer will return to City Square from 10am until 4pm, plus 2CS will broadcast live from the city centre between 1pm and 5pm. During the broadcast, city centre and Palms shoppers will have the chance to win a Christmas trailer filled with thousands of dollars worth of prizes.
Saturday, December 6 - Santa and Reindeers in the Palms. The Palms Shopping Centre will host Santa and his furry helpers in their special grotto upstairs next to the 'Big W' store. Santa photos and facepainting will be on offer from 9am to 1pm.
