14 Nov 08 - Coffs Offers a Warm Welcome
New in town or been here a while and still finding your feet? Keen to meet other people in the same boat? Then be sure to get your invitation to the latest 'Welcome Evening for New Residents' on Wednesday, November 26, at the Pet Porpoise Pool.
"We've now run five New Residents functions which have attracted around 500 people so far," said Jenny Oloman, Council's Economic Development Unit Manager.
"The feedback we've had from the parties has been great. Lots of people have made firm friends with the other new residents they met on the night.
"We've also had one function specifically for professionals who have moved to Coffs and that became an excellent networking opportunity for all those involved.
"The focus is, obviously, on helping people feel welcome and introducing them to potential new friends.
"But we also want to make sure that the people who move to the city, put down roots and stay here - and welcoming them and introducing them to other newcomers is a great way to help that process," she said.
The 'Welcome functions' are jointly organised by Coffs Harbour City Council, the Employment Training Company (ETC), the Coffs Coast Advocate and BCU.
The Welcome Evening is taking place at the Pet Porpoise Pool on Wednesday, November 26, from 7.00pm. It will include a number of icebreaker games and activities aimed at making the task of meeting new people a little easier.
Tickets are $12 for adults, $5 for children or $30 for a family. That includes drinks, nibbles and a special tour of the Pet Porpoise Pool - with maybe even a kiss from a seal!
Tickets are available from any BCU Branch.
