Coffs Harbour Water

Coffs Harbour Water Supply

The Coffs Harbour Water Supply, which supplies water to consumers from Sawtell in the south to Corindi Beach in the north, is stored in an off-stream storage facility at Karangi Dam.  The dam is located about 15km west of the city and can hold up to 5600 megalitres of water (one Olympic swimming pool holds 1 megalitre.)

Raw water is pumped from the Orara River at Cochranes Pool, when the quality is good, to fill the dam. When the water quality is poor no pumping occurs.

Bulk raw water can also be obtained from North Coast Water, via the Regional Water Supply Scheme pipeline from the Nymboida River.

Water is reticulated through the city via approximately 600 kilometres of pipelines and 18 storage reservoirs.
