Coffs Harbour Water

Water Mains Flushing

Coffs Harbour Water conducts a quarterly Water Mains Flushing program to clean the water mains of any dirt, debris, iron and manganese build ups and dirty water. By flushing the dirty water out of the mains, Coffs Harbour Water is taking proactive management steps to deliver clean water out of the taps in residents' homes.

Discolouration of the water supply may occur after flushing in your area and consumers are advised to check their tap water before commencing any washing or drinking.

About the Water Mains Flushing program:

  • Coffs Harbour Water does not flush on the Monday of any flushing week - this is to allow residents to complete any clothes washing, etc, with a guaranteed clean water supply.
  • An average of 1% of the total amount of water consumed over the year in the Coffs Harbour area is used to flush the mains to ensure we all have clean water in our homes.
  • The water cannot be diverted out for use on gardens or lawns as the high pressure of the water required to properly clean out the water mains would blast most plants, etc, out of the ground.
  • Coffs Harbour Water has investigated trying to collect the flushing water in trucks to be used elsewhere to minimise waste, but found that this is currently logistically and financially unviable.
  • No Water Mains Flushing is conducted when the Coffs Harbour area is in severe drought and Level 5 Water Restrictions are in force  - some residents may experience discoloured water from taps in their homes during these times as a result.
