Rural Residential Strategy Update
Community input is being invited to help guide future rural residential development for the Coffs Harbour local government area (LGA).
The aim of this review is to update the current Rural Residential Strategy, which was adopted in 1999, reflecting various changes in our area and population, and to establish an holistic approach to the future pattern of rural residential development in the LGA for the next 25 years.
The strategy will consider the following areas for possible future rural residential land use - Bonville, West Boambee, Coramba, Korora, Sapphire, Moonee, Corindi Beach, Nana Glen and Karangi. The strategy will focus on rural areas east of the range.
The updated strategy will be prepared by consultants over a period of six months from May 2008.
Community Consultation
The process will involve widespread consultation with the community and key stakeholder groups such as representatives of the rural sector, environment groups, Indigenous groups, chambers of commerce, the real estate industry, farmers and social service providers.
The first of a series of Community Information newsletters outlining the review process is now available. It can be downloaded here:
Rural Residential Strategy - Fact Sheet #1 (May 2008) (2.2MB)
The newsletter and maps will also be on display at Council's Administration Building and its three libraries in Coffs Harbour, Toormina and Woolgoolga.
Copies of the newsletter and the relevant map for the area will be available at the following locations: Corindi Shop, Coramba General Store, Karangi General Store, Sapphire Corner Store, Nana Glen General Store, Bonville Fruit Mart (1243 Pacific Hwy), Moonee Café Takeaway.
Council will also be hosting two workshops in early May with government agencies and representatives from key community organisations.
What's Next?
Once an updated Draft Rural Residential Strategy has been drawn up towards the end of 2008, it will be put out for further public consultation. A series of public meetings will also be held during that time to discuss key issues.
