21 Apr 2006 - Wartime Favourites On Show at Bunker Gallery

Anzac Day at the Bunker Cartoon Gallery will be marked this year by a particularly apt display of World War II cartoons.

The work of beloved - and saucy - war-time cartoonist Joanne Morrison will be on display along with a fascinating collection of memorabilia including many letters written to her by the Aussies at the front, who were among her greatest fans.

"Joanne Morrison's talent was admired by no less than Norman Lindsay and her luscious, naughty war-time beauties brought smiles to thousands of people at a time when Australia and her allies were wracked by war," said Gallery Director Dr Leigh Summers.

The exhibition, which covers all of Morrison's impressive work, has examples of her childhood drawings, through to her work with the ribald Man magazine.

The collection has been loaned to the Bunker by the artist's daughter, Anna Webb, who will open the exhibition at 3pm on Anzac Day.

The work of another female cartoonist will also be on show.

Sarah Parsons, an emerging and talented cartoonist from the Blue Mountains, will also be present to open her show which takes a sharp and funny look at a multitude of world issues including war, greenhouse gas emissions and even real estate.

Everyone is invited to the opening of both shows at 3pm on Anzac Day, Tuesday 25 April.

Refreshments will be served and entry is free.
