The Bunker Cartoon Gallery is Australia's first and only dedicated black and white art gallery exhibiting the largest private collection of contemporary cartoons in the Southern Hemisphere.
The Gallery is housed in an authentic underground WWII bunker that has been converted to a funky exhibition space.
Exhibitions
The Bunker Cartoon Gallery focuses on cartoon art and regularly installs changing exhibitions drawn from its own magnificent holdings of about 13,500 works, as well as providing a venue for travelling exhibitions.
Cartoon Awards
The Rotary Cartoon Awards competition is designed to recognise the best of Australian and international cartoons with prizes totalling over $10,000. The Rotary Cartoon Awards are sponsored by the Rotary Club of Coffs Harbour City to raise funds for various Rotary charities and to promote cartooning through the Bunker Cartoon Gallery. All entries will become part of the Coffs Cartoon Collection. The 19th Annual Rotary Cartoon Awards took place in September 2007. For more information about the competition and to see previous winners, visit the Rotary Cartoon Awards website.
The Venue
The Bunker Cartoon Gallery is wheelchair friendly and welcomes coach tours. The Gallery is also available for hire as a venue for events such as launches, cocktail parties, business or promotional events and the like. Contact the Bunker Gallery for more information.
Volunteers
The Bunker Gallery, which is run by Council, relies on volunteers to man the reception desk and to assist staff with mounting, framing and hanging of artworks, and for various duties on opening nights and during special events. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer (even if you are only available once or twice a month), please contact the Gallery on 6651 7343.
