4 Apr 2006 - Waste Slogan Wanted
Coffs Coast Waste Services is looking for inspiration from the creative minds of Coffs Coast residents.
The new regional waste service needs a catchy slogan, which will be used to remind the community to reduce, recycle and reuse our waste resources. A prize of $200 is being offered for the winning slogan, in a competition open to all residents of Coffs Harbour, Nambucca and Bellingen.
Chairman of the Coffs Coast Waste Services Education Committee, Bob Burgess, said the community had generally embraced the new recycling initiatives.
"But we still need to make sure that the message on recoverable items continues to get through, as well as using it as a reminder to prevent contamination of our recycleable and organic resources," said Mr Burgess.
"We want a slogan that everyone can remember easily to encourage people to change their waste practices for good."
"Our natural resources are precious. Recycling reduces our reliance on raw materials, which in turn reduces pollution and energy consumption through the manufacturing process.
"As well as recovering recyclable products, Coffs Coast Waste Services will eventually be able to process greenwaste and organics into useful resources such as compost, so that only a fraction of our garbage ultimately ends up in landfill," he said.
Slogan entries close on May 1. Entry forms are available in local newspapers and television guides, and online forms on Coffs Harbour City Council's website.
Paper entries should be forwarded to The Education Officer, Coffs Coast Waste Services, Locked Bag 155, Coffs Harbour, NSW 2450. The winning entry will be judged by the Coffs Coast Waste Services Education Committee, and the winner will be notified by mail or telephone.
