What Council Is Doing
What is Coffs Harbour City Council doing?
There are many initiatives around the world to try and reduce the amount of greenhouse gases that are being put into the atmosphere and slow down global warming.
In Coffs Harbour, we have a number of programs that aim to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. These include:
- Energy Savings Action Plan - this plan will set out measures for Council to save energy.
- Energy Efficient Street Lighting Project - these lights were rolled out over the 2004/2005 period, and have resulted in 35% energy savings per year.
- Integrated Transport Plan - this project aims to reduce car dependence and improve the accessibility of the area to all residents and visitors, by providing a greater range of transport options.
- Walkways and Cycleways - Council continues to build these to provide a means of transport that does not contribute carbon dioxide to the atmosphere, and to promote healthy lifestyles to the community.
- Cities for Climate Protection Program - as Council has achieved the 5 strategic milestones of the CCP Program, we have now moved on to the CCP Plus Program.
- Green energy - Council now purchases 100% renewable energy, of which a portion is accredited GreenPower.
