Map of Northern Beaches Cycleways (816KB)

Work on the first section of the Northern Beaches cycleway, linking Arrawarra, Mullaway, Safety Beach and Woolgoolga was completed in 2006.
The $950,000 cycleway will form part of the NSW Coastal Cycleway, a 10-year programme to connect coastal villages between the Victorian border and Tweed Heads. Funding has been shared equally between Council and the Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources.
Background
In 2001, Council formally adopted the Northern Beaches Cycleway plan - a 24 km cycleway route linking the northern beaches villages of Arrawarra, Mullaway, Safety Beach, Woolgoolga, Sandy Beach , Emerald Beach and Moonee Beach to the Coffs Harbour urban and business district areas.
Work on the first stage of the Northern Beaches Cycleway began in 2002 when council constructed a cycleway between Melaleuca Avenue in Woolgoolga and Woolgoolga High School. As Council needs to make a dollar for dollar contribution, a future application for funding of the cycleway's second stage will be made subject to budget approval. The second stage also depends on developer contributions and negotiations with the RTA with regard to the Pacific Highway. When completed, this 14km section, costing $1.7m, will then link Woolgoolga to Moonee Beach. The third stage will be a 2.8km stretch from Moonee to Sapphire costing $0.4m.
