Waste-Wise Special Events

Coffs Coast Waste Services logoSpecial events have the potential to create large volumes of unrecyclable garbage which ends up in landfill.  Most people these days are used to recycling in the home and are keen to recycle when out and about. So, to keep your event environmentally friendly, Coffs Coast Waste Services encourage you to make your event Waste Wise.

What is Waste Wise?

Managing the waste we create at special events in an environmentally friendly and socially responsible way.

How to be Waste Wise

To conduct a Waste-Wise event, you need to understand the types of waste that your event will produce.  It is important to:

  • Avoide certain materials like unwanted packaging in setting up your event and also when on-selling products to the consumer;
  • Reuse products where possible such as the containers, boxes and bags you've used to transport food, drink, clothes and other items; and
  • Recycle materials including bulk cardboard, glass and plastics generated at your event.

When you organise collection of waste through a commercial waste collection contractor, you can also arrange to have recycling bins delivered.

Please also note when organising an event on Council managed land, you may need to lodge a development application.

Waste-Wise Packaging

We have produced a list of suggested packaging and suppliers to use for your event.

Please note, this list is not exhaustive and you are encouraged to locate other suppliers should you wish.  This list includes items made from recyclable and compostable products.
