Water Accounts

Charges on your Water Account

All charges shown on your Water Account are based on a 'user pays system' whereby you are charged for the water (or related services) used and recorded by your water meter.

Residential Water Account

  • Water Usage Charge

Water usage charges apply to all residential properties connected to Council's water supply.  We make attempts to read every water meter four times per year (once every 3 months).  Where we cannot gain access to a meter or where we find a defective meter we may estimate usage charges based on previous usage recorded on the meter.

Non-Residential Water Account

  • Water Usage Charge

Water usage charges apply to all non-residential properties connected to Council's water supply.  We make attempts to read every water meter four times per year (once every 3 months).  Where we cannot gain access to a meter or where we find a defective meter we may estimate usage charges using previous readings.

  • Sewerage Usage Charge

The charge is based on each kilolitre of sewage being discharged into Council's sewerage system.  Unless sewage is directly metered, a Sewerage Discharge Factor (SDF) is applied to your water usage to allow us to calculate the volume of sewage discharge. The allocation of SDFs are based on State Government guidelines (which are based on business / industry types).

  • Trade Waste Usage Charge (Compliant & Non-Compliant)

This charge only applies to non-residential properties discharging liquid trade waste into Council's sewerage system.  This is a separate charge from the sewerage usage charge.

A Trade Waste Discharge Factor (TWDF) is applied to associated water usage to calculate the volume of liquid trade waste discharged.

The TWDF is based on State Government guidelines (which are based on business / industry types). The TWDF, in simple terms, is a percentage of the water usage (measured by the water meter) deemed to be discharged into the sewerage system as liquid trade waste. It is important to note that different businesses and commercial activities attract different trade waste charges. These differences are based on the determination of the 'Classification' and 'Charge Category' of the trade waste generator as well as the level of compliance with Trade Waste Regulations.

If you are unsure of your Trade Waste Discharge Factor, or level of compliance, or have any other questions relating to trade waste, please do not hesitate to contact Council's Trade Waste Officer on (02) 6648 4000 during business hours.

Water Account Inclusions

Included with the first Water Account of a new Financial Year, Council sends to every property a Water and Sewer brochure informing customers of the Coffs Harbour Water 24 hour contact details, tips on how to save water at home and ways to look after your water and sewer connections.
