VS
Saturday 11 February 2012 marked the fourth consecutive year BCU International Stadium has hosted an NRL Pre-season Trial match with the South Sydney Rabbitohs, as they took on 2011 Grand finalists, New Zealand Vodafone Warriors.
Despite a torrential downpour prior to kick off, 5376 fans braved the conditions to watch what turned out to be a fantastic night of football. In the lead up to the main game, Group 2 teams, Bellinger Valley/Dorrigo Magpies, Coffs Harbour Comets, Orara Valley Axemen and Woolgoolga Seahorses took part in the now well established and toughly contested rugby league seven’s tournament.
With the rain delaying play, all games were reduced to 5 minutes each way. Game one saw Woolgoolga defeat Orara Valley 12 – 4, followed by a draw at 4 a piece for Coffs and Bellinger Valley/Dorrigo with the win awarded to Coffs as the first try scorer. Bellinger Valley/ Dorrigo then went on to overcome Woolgoolga 12 – 6, before Coffs beat Orara Valley 16 – 6 in the forth game. In the end the Bellinger Valley/Dorrigo Magpies claimed their first Seven’s trophy, defeating last years winners Coffs Harbour Comets 18 -8 in the final.

In the main game, Warrior’s Simon Mannering was first to break the Rabbitoh’s defence after just four minutes of play, while Dave Taylor put the Rabbitoh’s on the scoreboard in the 18th minute. New Zealand were struck with an early blow when both Rapira brothers were taken out early in the game, however, this didn’t stop the Warriors leading 6-4 at the half time break.
Whilst the Rabbitoh’s put up a fight, tries in the second half by Andrew Everingham and Kurt French weren’t enough, with the Warriors claiming victory at full time with a 22- 14 win thanks to tries from Manu Vatuvei and Konrad Hurrel.
