Sports Facility Plan

Sport is a major economic driver in Coffs Harbour which injects around $30 million a year into the local economy.

Coffs Harbour City Council is committed to bringing world-class sporting teams and events to the City as well as assisting grass roots sport in the Community.

In 2001, Council set up the Coffs Harbour Sports Unit to focus specifically on developing sporting opportunities in the City.

The Sports Unit has held major sporting events at BCU International Stadium in Coffs Harbour, including NRL Preseason Trial matches, the Australian Women's Football (Soccer) team Olympic Qualifiers, the 2007 City v Country match, the National Girls and Boys Football (Soccer) Championships, and the Australian & New Zealand Police & Emergency Services Games.

BCU International Stadium also plays host to long standing events in the City including the National Boys and Girls Youth Football (Soccer) Championships as well as the OZTAG State Cup.

The Sports Unit also played a major role in attracting the Wallabies to set up their training base in Coffs Harbour at Novotel Pacific Bay Resort. As a result of this, other elite sporting teams have also used Camp Wallaby for training camps, including the Matildas, the Gold Coast Titans and the Sydney Swans, who in conjunction with these camps also participate in public appearances around the City.

In March 2008, the South Sydney Rabbitohs established 'Camp Rabbitoh' at Novotel Pacific Bay Resort in Coffs Harbour.
