Super Tuesday
Super Tuesday is a day on which rider numbers and routes are recorded from 7am until 9am. It will be held on March 1.
As a regular and consistent measure of bike riding movements across the country, Super Tuesday provides councils with reliable and accurate figures about rider numbers and preferred movements through the Local Government Area. This data strengthens the case for further investment in better bicycle facilities.
You can support the Super Tuesday Bike Count and help get better bicycle facilities by volunteering to count riders on Super Tuesday. Each count volunteer will be given $50 to donate to their designated bicycle club, school or other designated community group.
The same 22 sites have been chosen for the count as in 2011. Click on the link for more details:
Super Tuesday website
In 2011 results showed that Coffs Harbour City Council ranked 31st out of the 47 participating councils. That makes us comparable to Albury, but also to some metropolitan areas such as Parramatta and Geelong.
The busiest routes were Beach Street and Wharf Street to Lake Road in Woolgoolga with 71 and 56 riders counted respectively. The next busiest was the Hogbin Drive/Albany Street roundabout area with another 56 riders.
The survey helps Council tailor the location of future bike paths, maintenance needs or where we might need to carry out further investigations into the best way of accommodating traffic flows and cyclists. It also helps us by providing a reliable annual benchmark of riders within the Coffs Harbour local government area.
