 Economic Strategy 2012 

Coffs Harbour City Council recognises that a successful economic strategy needs to be aspirational and visionary and prepared in collaboration with industry sectors and the community.

The strategy will be a journey moving the city forward in an ever changing and sometimes turbulent economic environment. The strategy cannot be rigid or inflexible and consideration needs to be given to changing economic factors and new opportunities available to assist with the growth of the city.

There are three main ways for you to keep up-to-date with progress and also participate in the development of the strategy:

Strategy Author
A crucial component in having a high level of sucess in implementing the strategy with the community, business, investors and government is 'the author'.

CHCC has engaged SCU to author the Strategy as they provide us with all the key criteria:

  • Research and Analytical Capabilities
  • Experience in strategic planning and writing

  Launch of Economic Strategy Process

Following Bernard Salt’s talk at the ETC Business Leader's Breakfast ETC also hosted a SWOT Analysis which was facilitated by Bernard Salt. Over 80 members of Coffs Harbour's business community provided a lively and thought-provoking discussion into Coffs Harbour’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. This provides us with a strong foundation to develop the future strategy.

Engage Central vTEAM

A Strategy vTEAM established to continue the dialogue sparked off by the launch.

Engage Central vTeams will be the collaboration space where members are able to contribute to and shape the development of the Strategy and Action Plans. vTeams is a networking tool and communications platform that enables consultation, engagement and collaboration the community. vTeams have been developed on a platform that is similar to Facebook, but with security measures and identification verification required. Apply to become a member of the Economic Strategy vTeam.

Industry Networks

A range of Industry Networks will be established to undertake their own SWOT analysis and evaluate Industry Snapshots to provide key points on global, national and local drivers, trends and innovation. They will also develop Industry Action Plans.

Each Network will consist of industry members representing the ‘depth’ of existing and emerging industries in their area. It is anticipated that these Networks be ongoing and will work to grow their own business and the business sector itself, creating wealth for the community and increasing employment opportunities. Industry sectors will include:
  • Food Security / Systems
  • Building and Construction
  • Creative Industries
  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Information Technology
  • Manufacturing (Manufacture Coffs Coast)
  • Professional Services 
  • Retail
  • Education and Skills
  • Sport and Recreation
  • Tourism and Events
  • Transport 
  • Emerging Industries and Clean Technology

Reference Group
Following the formation of Industry Networks, elected representatives from each Industry Network and the Partners Group will be formed into a Reference Group to guide the Strategy during its development and implementation.
