Public Swimming Pools and Spa Pools

What pools need to notify with Council?

All public swimming pools and spa pools are required to notify Council of their operation.

Notification of Public Swimming Pools & Spa Pools

What is a public pool?

A swimming pool and spa pool to which the public is admitted, whether free of charge, on payment of a fee or otherwise, including swimming pools and spa pools:

  • to which the public is admitted as an entitlement of membership of a club, or
  • provided at a workplace for the use of employees, or
  • provided at a hotel, motel or guest house or at holiday units, or similar facility, for the use of guests, or
  • provided at a school or hospital,

It does not include swimming pools or spa pools in private residential premises.

The Public Health Regulation 2012 regulates the type of disinfectant to be used in public pools as well as the disinfectant residual parameters. Use Council's Disinfectant Guide to help you determine what levels must be present in your pool and what parameters you must be testing for and recording in your daily log books.
