Voice of Time Project

Voice of Time oral history project bannerGeneral

The Voice of Time oral history project is a collection of 150 interviewees with descendents of pioneering families and long-time residents of the Coffs Harbour region. The original project was completed in 1988 as an Australian Bicentennial project. It has now been digitised by Coffs Harbour City Library and published in digital format to enable improved preservation and public access.

Digitisation

In 1999 the Library began investigating options to improve the preservation of and access to the Voice of Time interviews. It was decided to digitise both the analogue audio recordings (cassette tapes) and the interview summary documents. Grants were obtained from Royal Australian Historical Society and the Library Council of NSW to fund the project. The audio recordings have been converted to both music CD format (WAV files) and MP3 files. The interview summaries have been converted into Microsoft Word documents and also into online library catalogue (MARC) records.
